Scotland is one of the top destinations for Mountain Biking with the Forestry Commission leading the way by opening up many of its forests to cyclists. There is plenty of choice and levels.

The Moray Monster Trails are a collection of the top routes in the area. They are at 3 locations Ordiequish, Whiteash and Ben Aigan but they are all linked giving miles of fast, nailbiting fun. At Ordiequish there is a skills area for learning and brushing up your skills.

Culbin Sands near Forres and Findhorn has a network of paths suitable for cycling through the pine forest. There are leaflets at the car park so you can easily plan a route taking in the dragonfly pond, buried tree and otter pool. Head for Hill 99 to climb the viewing tower which gives amazing views over the trees, Moray and the North of Scotland.

There’s a route along the coast and cliffs from Cullen to Buckie, which is mostly off road. With high vantage points keep an eye out for dolphins. You’ll also pass Bow Fiddle Rock a much photographed rock formation. This route’s about 7 miles one way.

For a longer route the Dava way is well worth considering. It follows the old railway line from Forres to Grantown on Spey and is around 23 miles long with good terrain although can be a bit wet and stony in places.

Glenlivet Estates have a network routes. With varying terrain and difficulty there should be something to interest everyone.
